Chapter 3

“Blake” Grace called over to me. I waved at her as I started in her direction. Grace had been my friend since before I can recall. She was a tall and slender girl, with her straight brown hair and chocolate eyes she really did look as if she belonged on America’s Next Top Model. However today at school with her huge glasses and goofy cloths she looked more like my best friend.

“Hey Grace, what happened to the contacts?” I asked laughing I told her she would give up on them within the day she received them. She made a face that told me I didn’t want to know just as Adrian was sitting down. Adrian spoke next

“So are you girls coming over for movie night?” he asked raising one eyebrow at Grace. He had a thing for her, how she didn’t know was a mystery to me. I smiled at them both.

“Of course I’m in how does “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” sound?” I asked volunteering to pick up the movie.

“Oh shoot let’s make it tomorrow I have a yearbook staff thingy tonight” Grace’s face looked sad, and I knew she felt bad for being the reason we were going to change our plans.

“I can do tomorrow” Adrian said, of course he could. He could do three weeks from the third of June if it worked for Grace.

“I’ll be there” I assured her looking her in the eye smiling.

“Thanks guys” I could the relief in her voice.
That night I sat on my window seat reading like any other night when I felt my phone vibrate again. I looked at it and followed the directions that told me to look up. Across the little patch of green I looked up to find Laurence watching me. So stupidly I waved. He laughed at me but not with venom. He pointed up with his pointer finger. Knowing exactly what he wanted I climbed up to my roof.

“It’s been forever since I have been up here” I muttered. I looked over to see Laurence finally reaching his roof but with difficulty. “It’s nice up here” I called over to him. He grinned at me. I let out a small laugh. I was instantly reminded of the warm summer nights we had shared up on our roofs.

“It is” he agreed. Nothing else was said and eventually we climbed down back into our rooms respectively. I found a small smile was on my lips. I found a large t-shirt that I threw on before I turned in.

In the morning I could feel the heat wake me. I groaned mentally it would be a hot run. I put on some running shorts and a sports bra. I tied my running shoes tightly than proceeded to make my way downstairs to the kitchen where my mother was sitting at the table papers spread all around her. I heard sizzling from the stove around the corner.

“Dad you know that stuff isn’t good for you” I reprimanded him as I kissed him on the check.

“Oh sweetie I have lived so long, it is” he laughed reasoning that when your old bacon suddenly becomes good for you. A smile cracked my lips.

“Only a few pieces the doctors orders or has the old man forgotten?” I joked. He tried to whip me the towel that had been over his shoulder. After regaining myself from a little fit of laughter I sighed. “Okay I am going to go I’ll be back later” I smiled he did too.

“Have a good run” he smiled as I walked towards the door. I plugged my head phones into my ears and began running, falling into that familiar rhythm I found every Saturday. The Honeybrooke Park was three miles from my house. That’s where I was heading. Today when I arrived at the park there were quite a few people. Families with their little children, teenagers in groups, and some one I recognized. Laurence was here with his girlfriend. I averted my eyes refusing to be a creeper. I walked over to the bench where I typically took my ten minute break. I steadied my breathing focusing in than out. So I was completely startled when a little boy clutched onto my leg. I looked down. Yes there he was looking altogether very pleased with himself. When I looked up I saw his mom.

“I am so sorry dear he seems to like you a good deal” she laughed I smiled.

“It’s no problem he’s adorable” I assured I was not offended.

“Come on sweetie lets go home and have a cookie” she offered as bait I think.

“No I want to stay here” he pouted. I leant forward to whisper in his ear.

“Those cookies are so yummy though you should go” He smiled at the word cookies as one arm dropped from my leg.

“I want to stay with you” he whined torn between staying here with me and having that cookie. Personally I think the cookie was a better option.

“I’ll tell you what if you come to the park next Saturday morning I’ll be here and than we can play together if its okay with your mommy” I looked up questioningly she nodded smiling. He let go to stand up.

“I’m Blake” he said in a proud little voice.

“My name is Blake too” I laughed so did he. “Bye Blake I’ll see you next week.” I waved as they started to walk away. I slowly stood and stretched my arms upward. I started back home falling into my regular pace.

After a long shower an hour of homework and two hours of painting a boat with my dad it was almost six. The boat I painted with my dad will never be done nor will it ever actually make it to lake. I cleaned the paint off myself in my bathroom. I looked at my blue eyes in the mirror. They were the exact color of my dads just like my almost white blond hair was the same shade as his. The only thing I shared with my mother was my freckles. They were more pronounced than my sisters so there was no point in trying to cover them up like she did. They ran along my check bones and across the bridge of my nose. I pulled up my hair quickly took out my contacts to put on my glasses because my eyes were sore. I dressed in a camisole and a pair of sorts, no point in dressing up for movie night.
