Chapter 1

As I sat in my room reading I heard the song “I want to kiss a girl” by Keith Urban came on the radio. I put down my book gingerly on my window seat. I stood up and went to turn up my stereo. I grabbed my hair brush singing along at the top of my lungs dancing around my room. In the midst of jumping around I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I stopped to open my phone.

To: Blake
From: Laurence
Nice dancing lol

I blushed as I walked towards my window. I looked across the short gap between our house and the neighbors. I had lived across the street from Laurence my entire life, I had became painfully aware when I hit puberty that Laurence could see straight into my room as well as vise versa. I quickly learned the importance of blinds and keeping them down while changing. I quickly texted him back

To: Laurence
From: Blake
Creeper

A one word response was sufficient. When we were younger we were good friends, played at the park every day. As time went on we subtly changed as people, our values and morals slowly drifted farther apart. Starting high school we still spoke occasionally or walked to classes together. As an athlete his influences weren’t good ones. Without realization we no longer even said hello in the halls by thanksgiving break. Since then the only conversing we did was the occasional text. I looked at him as he opened his phone just now receiving my response. I saw him chuckle a little than he looked up at me. I waved at him in a gesture of an old friendship.

I pulled my curtains closed so I could change for bed. I pulled on a pair of basket ball shorts and a camisole over my head. I shut of the light right before I jumped onto my bed. I snuggled deep under the comforter as I drifted to sleep replaying the story of the book I was reading in my head. My mom yanked my curtains open drowning me in bright sunlight. I cracked one eye open. My alarm clock read six thirty. I opened both eyes fully. Morning had come to soon like it always did. I pushed myself out of bed and into a hot shower. I took thirty minutes thoroughly washing myself, and perhaps lingering a bit, before I made my self shut off the water.

“Blake it’s seven ten” my mother called. I sighed as I wiped off the steam from my bathroom mirror so I could do something with my hair. I settled for combing through it twice. It would dry straight there was no point in taking the time to use a blow dryer that I believe broke a month ago. I put on the underwear I had brought into my bathroom, a plain white thong with a plain white matching bra. If it were possible for an undergarment to describe your life mine would have it to a T. Supportive but not excessively girly, simple predictable just like my everyday routines, maybe women did pick their underwear in accordance with their lives. I pulled on a black fitted t-shirt. I slid my legs into my size four jeans, they were a little ripped but that was a style now right? I shrugged it off as I tied my black converse. I ran a hand through my hair it was mostly dry now. I looked in the mirror as I comfortable as I thought I was with my self I nearly always checked a mirror before I left. I was surprised how well this shirt showed off my smallish chest.

“Blake it’s seven thirty you need to be leaving now” my mother yelled I scooped up my book bag as I rushed out shutting of my light. “Make sure you take Lucy to dance tonight after school your father will pick her up” she said as dashed across the living room papers in hand. She was pro-bono Lawyer, and she was working a big case. She was very stressed currently so I tried to be as pleasant in my response as possible because I was not enthused.

“Okay mom. Come on Lucy let’s go, bye” I called over my shoulder Lucy said nothing but fluffed her hair in the mirror as we left.

“Bye girls” my mother called, by her tone I knew she was going to have a terrible day.
